The Lifelong Learning Center of St. Paul University Philippines is privileged to invite you and your faculty to participate in the International Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Training workshop on August 10-24, 2015 at the Thomas Jefferson Center, 3rd floor, Knowledge Information Management Network, LRC St Paul University Philippines Tuguegarao City Cagayan Philippines.
The PBL training workshop has been going on for the past five years which was spearheaded by St. Paul University Philippines. The PBL training workshop is one among the many Center of Excellence (COE) programs and projects by the College of Nursing of SPUP recognized by the Commission on Higher education (CHED) in the Philippines.
The School of Health Sciences specifically the BSN program is utilizing PBL pedagogy to teaching learning nursing. PBL is an innovative approach that challenges students to learn through engagement in a real world problem. The students are placed in the active role of problem-solvers confronted with ill-structured situation that simulates the kind of problems they are likely to face as future health care providers in complex organizations. PBL is unique in that it fosters collaboration among students, stresses the development of problem solving skills within the context of professional practice, promotes effective reasoning and self-directed learning, and is aimed at increasing motivation for life-long learning. PBL is one best practice at the school of Health Sciences which has been instrumental in making SPUP as top performing school nationwide in the nurses’ licensure examination.
Our keynote speaker is Sister Remy Angela Junio, SPC Professor Emerita, St Paul University Philippines and Dean Emerita, College of Nursing, SPUP. She underwent education and training the PBL way using McMasters’ model of PBL in Canada in 2001. She is the only trained PBL guru in the country.
Registration fee for the 12 days training session is USD 500 per participant inclusive of two snacks and one lunch. SPUP can accommodate the participants at the international students’ residence where they can avail of discounted rates for board and lodging.
The nursing faculty who has been regarded as PBL experts shall assist and support Sr. Remy during the training workshop. They will be sharing experiences of PBL tutorial moments with the students and will be around to provide lectures on the PBL process.
A tour around Cagayan valley with the trainers’ will be scheduled after the culmination of 12 days session, and the participants will have a chance to observe actual PBL classes among nursing students.
We hope to see you in this training workshop, please contact the undersigned for more details. This endeavor can be an initial activity of our MOU being ASEAN partners in advancing nursing education in the 21st century learning.
